Hood, Door & Trunk Latches

Hood Latches

Parts:

Tools:

  1. Install the latches. Make sure the square hole on the latch is oriented to the hole in the frame. Also, make sure the latch will swing out to the rear, not the front.
  2. Install the trim rings. These can be installed on either side. Bolt them on with the tiny nuts and bolts included in the fastener kit.
  3. Slide the handles in. The orientation of the handle should match that of thelatch arm. Slide the spring and washer on the end of each handle, and install the cotter pin.

Door Latches

Parts:

Tools:

  1. Install the strikers. They just bolt on as shown above. (figure 1 & 2)
  2. Install the latches. They install using four bolts, and there is a left and a right, so be careful. The drivers side is shown above.
  3. Install the cover plate using a small flat head screwdriver.
  4. Adjust the doors by orienting the striker forward or backward, using washers as shims.
  5. After drivetrain installation, re-adjustment will be required

Trunk Latch

  1. Bolt the latch to the underside of the trunk lid.
  2. Orient the handle & gently push it in.
  3. Insert screws from the handle side.
  4. Gently and evenly screw the trunk handle in to place.

A small gap between the body and trunk frame where the handle bolts down is normal. Over tightening these bolts will close this gap, but will also flex the trunklid skin in and make the trunk look dented. Loosening the trunk handle bolts will fix this.
